Guide to recording and editing your video

Everything you need, explained simply. If you have a question, the answer is most likely below.

Open the studio

Before you start

  • Use Chrome or Edge on a computer. It does not work well on a phone.
  • You sign in with a link sent to your email. There are no passwords.
  • You record and edit in your browser. A video is only uploaded when you choose to share it by link. So if you clear the browser data, you lose what you have not saved or exported.
  • Always use the same browser and computer for a project: what is in Chrome does not show in Edge.

Your first video in 5 steps

  1. Record. Press Record (bottom left), choose what to share and press Start recording. To stop: Alt + D.
  2. Cut what you do not need. Put the cursor where you want and press S. Click the unwanted piece and press Del.
  3. Subtitles (optional): the Subtitles tool and "Generate from voice".
  4. Look: in Background choose a background and margins.
  5. Export: the Export button (top right) and 1080p. The file ends up in Downloads.

Recording

What to share

When you press Record you choose what to share and see a preview. Look at it before you start.

  • Entire screen: records everything, even when you switch programs.
  • Window: records one program only.
  • Tab: records one Chrome tab. It captures that page's sound very well.

Voice, camera and sound

  • Microphone: turn it on to explain with your voice. If it will not let you, press the padlock next to the address and allow the microphone.
  • Camera: puts your face in a bubble. Drag it to the corner you like.
  • System audio: the sound of the computer (music, videos). On Windows it works with the entire screen or a tab.
  • Floating timer: a small window with the time and the stop button. If you record the entire screen, it will show in the video.

How long you can record

On the web, up to 10 minutes with Pro and 5 on the free version. In the desktop app, Pro allows 60 minutes and writes straight to disk to protect long recordings. The bar shows elapsed time and the limit.

Before you press record

  • Close what you do not need and mute notifications.
  • Do a 10-second test to check that your voice is heard.
  • If you record the wrong screen, you have to record again.

Teleprompter

Follow your script and speak with confidence, at your own pace.

  1. Open Teleprompter and press Paste text or Edit script. You can also double-click the script to edit it.
  2. Adjust the speed and text size. Add paragraph breaks while editing.
  3. On Windows, press Open teleprompter: place it under your webcam, drag it, resize it and adjust transparency from its toolbar.
  4. To read from another device, press Open on phone or tablet and scan the QR. Script, pause and scrolling stay in sync.
  5. The script opens paused. Start and stop whenever you choose using its controls.

The transparent window is available in the Windows app and with Mac Helper capture. In the browser, read your script on your phone via QR.

Where your videos are stored

Your recordings appear in the Video tool (the first one on the left bar). They are not files in a folder: they are inside the browser. At the top you will see the active clip, shortcuts for the format, crop and save, and a list of steps to finish your video.

  • Press a video to put it on the timeline.
  • The bin deletes it for good.
  • Save project (folder menu, at the top) creates a file with all your work. In Chrome and Edge you choose the folder. Use it to continue another day or on another computer.
  • Export creates the final video.

Cut and delete

  • Cut: cursor where you want and S. The video clip is split in two.
  • Split all: Shift + S or the Split all button cuts the video, the audio tracks and the elements that pass through the cursor at the same time.
  • Delete a clip and close the gap: click it and press Del. What follows moves up, and subtitles, zooms, elements and audio of that part move with it.
  • Delete only that clip and leave a gap: Shift + Del, or the arrow next to the Delete button. The other tracks do not move.
  • Delete just one thing from another track (an audio, a text, a zoom): click it and press Del. Nothing else changes.
  • Trim the ends: drag the green edges of the clip.
  • Undo: Ctrl + Z. Redo: Ctrl + Y. The History button lets you go back to any step.
  • Speed of the whole video: the slider in the Video tool.

The AI assistant

It is in the AI tab of the right column, next to Layers and Teleprompter. There you enter your own key and generate a summary, chapters and titles.

The buttons under the video

  • Crop: cuts the edges of the picture.
  • Auto (format): the shape of the final video: YouTube (horizontal), TikTok (vertical), square… Choose according to where you will publish it.

The timeline and the tracks

Each row of the timeline is a track: Video, Zoom, Object (images and videos on top of yours) and Audio.

  • Add tracks: tracks button (top left of the timeline). You can add video or image tracks and audio tracks, so you have room to place things.
  • Order: drag the label of a track (Video, Zoom…) over another, or use the small arrows.
  • What is in front: a higher track is drawn in front of the ones below. Drag an element up or down to change its track.
  • Right-click a clip on the video track: put it above the video (like a window) or behind it (like a background).
  • The track that holds your selection is marked in green, so you know where you are.

Library

Upload your videos, images and sounds once and use them in any edit. They stay on your device. Search by name, folder, tag or transcript, organize them, and recover them from Trash.

  • Each item has buttons to use it where the cursor is.
  • Better: drag it to the timeline, to the exact moment you want. A line shows you where it will land.
  • A video dropped on the video track is inserted between the cuts. Dropped on another row, it plays over the video.
  • An image or a sound starts at the moment where you drop it. If you drop it on a particular track, it stays on it.
  • Share uploads the selected video to Bunny Stream and creates a GrabaliA page with optional password and expiry, comments and analytics.

Polish and clean up

Polish in one click

The Polish tool has four tabs: Auto Polish (several improvements at once: automatic zoom toward what is happening, a clearer cursor and clicks, and the camera hidden when you are not speaking), Clean up (pauses and filler words), Script (removes reading mistakes, lets you re-read a sentence and zooms in with your script) and Mouse (how the cursor and clicks look).

  • The enhanced cursor and clicks work with the Windows app, because a browser cannot read the mouse.
  • Zoom: zooms into an area while you explain. In the Zoom tool press Add fragment, or let automatic zoom do it.

Clean up: pauses and filler words

In Polish, the Clean up tab marks long pauses and filler words ("um", "uh"). Press Remove all or decide one by one (Show in video, Remove, Keep). The video closes the gaps and Ctrl + Z undoes it. Filler words are only detected if you already generated subtitles.

Script: reading mistakes

In Polish, the Script tab uses the text of your teleprompter. Press Analyse with my script and it suggests removing false starts and repeated lines, keeping the last complete take. In Your sentences, Read again records only that sentence and replaces that piece of voice. Create zooms from my script zooms in where you say "press" or "click". Everything is analysed on your computer and Ctrl + Z undoes it.

Subtitles

  1. Open Subtitles. It has three tabs: Create, Style and Translate and download. In Create, choose the spoken language and press Generate from voice. The first time it downloads a model and takes longer. Everything is done on your computer.
  2. Check the text. Fix the mistakes and adjust the timing. It is worth it.
  3. Choose a style (12 available, some animated) and change colors, font, size and position.
  4. If you prefer to write them yourself, paste a script and press Create from text.
  • Translate: choose another language and press Translate. It creates another track that you can show or hide with the eye.
  • The ones on the track that is visible show in the video. You can also download them as SRT or VTT.
  • Subtitles are made on your computer, without uploading your audio.

Audio and music

  • Original audio: your voice and the recorded sound. You can mute it or lower it.
  • Record my voice: the video plays while you speak and your voice stays on its own track.
  • Separate audio: moves the sound of a clip to its own track, to delete or change it.
  • Upload audio: your music (MP3, WAV, OGG, AAC or M4A). Lower the volume so it does not cover your voice.

The tool is split into three blocks that fold: Your voice, Music and sounds and Tracks.

Background music included

There are 14 royalty-free tracks made by the app itself, to give the video a mood: epic, trailer, emotional piano, serene piano, motivational, victory, lo-fi, cafe jazz, technology, mystery and more. Press ▶ to hear a sample and Add to put it in at a low volume.

Short sounds

Very short effects (a "click", a "ding") to mark a moment: hover to hear them and press + to put them where the cursor is. Use them sparingly: one or two well placed improve the video.

Text, background and transitions

  • Background: it has two tabs. Background: image, gradient or color. Frame and margins: margins, corners, shadow and the window frame (macOS, Windows, browser).
  • Elements and Point: arrows, shapes, icons, images and numbers to point at something. Each one is a bar on the timeline: drag its edges to decide when it shows.
  • Text: titles and notices. You can choose how it enters: typewriter, word by word, fade in, rise, pop, from the left or right, drop or zoom.
  • Hide: Blur or Mosaic areas to cover faces or passwords.
  • Transitions: how one clip moves into the next (22 styles). They apply to every cut.
  • Templates: intros, outros and titles with your brand details. Colors: one look for the whole video.
  • Camera: if you recorded with the camera, you can change the shape, size and position of your bubble, or put screen and camera side by side.

Exporting

Press Export and choose the quality.

  • 1080p MP4: the best option almost always (YouTube, classes, email).
  • 720p: a lighter file.
  • 2K and 4K: top quality, heavy and slower. They are Pro.
  • GIF: an animated picture without sound, for very short pieces.

The progress bar shows how the export is going. While it exports, do not close or minimise the tab. In Chrome and Edge you can choose where to save it; in other browsers it goes to Downloads.

Limits and formats

How long you can record, edit and export

  • Recording: up to 10 minutes with Pro on the web and 60 minutes with Pro in the desktop app; Free allows up to 3 minutes.
  • Editing comfortably: up to about 5 minutes on any computer, and up to 10 with 8 GB of memory or more. From 8 minutes the editor switches to balanced mode and, from 30, to light mode so it does not freeze.
  • Exporting: the time depends on your computer, the quality and your edits. Free allows exports up to 3 minutes each.
  • 4K: only for short clips (under 3 minutes): it uses a lot of memory.
  • Importing a video: up to 40 minutes and 2 GB per file with Pro, and 10 minutes and 1 GB on the free version. If a video is longer we tell you right away and it is not loaded; split it into parts with another program and import them separately. The sum of all the clips in a project has the same cap (40 minutes with Pro, 10 on free).

Which formats it saves

  • Video: MP4 in 480p, 720p, 1080p, 2K and 4K (2K and 4K are Pro).
  • GIF: an animated picture without sound, for short pieces.
  • WebM with transparency: when the background is transparent, to place it over other videos.
  • Subtitles: SRT and VTT.
  • Project: a .grabalia file with all your work (videos, audio and changes).
  • Thumbnail: a PNG image.
  • You can upload MP4, WebM, MOV and MKV videos.

Free and Pro

Free includes 10 videos per month, up to 3 minutes each, without a watermark, in 720p and 1080p. Record, edit, use the teleprompter, subtitles and Polish. Pro adds extended recording, 4K, My Brand, templates, BYOK AI and link sharing.

  • Project Pass: unlocks local Pro tools for one project.
  • Pro monthly or annual: local videos without a monthly cap, plus link sharing with 5 GB storage and 25 GB/month playback.
  • Next to Export there is always a button: Upgrade to Pro if you do not have it, You already have Pro if you do, and Go annual if you pay month by month (the annual plan costs 34% less than twelve single months, and what is left of the month you paid is deducted).

If something doesn't work

A button does nothing

Read the message next to the editing bar: it usually asks you to select a clip first. Click the clip on the timeline and try again.

It is stuck on “Preparing your video”

Wait a minute: long videos take a while. If it stays the same, do not reload yet: open the Video tool and check whether it is already in the list. If not, record again in shorter pieces.

My voice is not heard in the recording

Before recording turn on the Microphone. If it will not let you, press the padlock next to the address and allow the microphone. Check that the right microphone is chosen.

The sound of my computer is not heard

Turn on System audio and share the entire screen or a tab. With a single window, Windows does not let you record its sound.

The teleprompter shows in the video

Use Open on phone or tablet to read away from the screen you are recording, or choose a window or area that does not include the script. Before an important take, check the result with a short video.

I lost my video or the list disappeared

Videos live in the browser. They disappear if you clear the site data, use another browser or computer, or work in a private window. That is why it is worth saving the project and exporting what matters.

Is my video uploaded to the internet?

No. Recording, editing and subtitles are done on your computer. Only the voice model is downloaded the first time you generate subtitles.

The subtitles have mistakes

That is normal: automatic speech is not perfect. Fix the text in the Subtitles tool. Speaking slowly and close to the microphone helps.

The export fails or gets stuck

Keep the tab open and visible, close others and try a lower quality (1080p or 720p). If the video is very long, export it in parts.

The exported video has no subtitles

Check that the subtitle track is visible (open eye) in the Subtitles tool.

Can I use it on a phone or tablet?

It is not designed for that. Use a computer with Chrome or Edge.
